“Food and fashion have everything in common. They’re sensory. They’re emotional. It’s creative.” When the American designer, Zac Posen, quoted these invaluable lines, he spoke my mind out! Food and fashion have been an integral part of my life since childhood, shaping my passions, providing comfort, building my confidence, and defining the extracurricular activities I chose to pursue.
As a child living in Ahmedabad, India, I saw myself as a misfit for the orthodox society, with my dark-skinned, scrawny and bespectacled appearance not conforming to its general beauty standards. It was only when my father handed me a copy of the fashion magazine, Vogue, that I realized that dark women too can be great fashionistas! I immediately developed a love for fashion. Later, during my under-graduation, I did a summer-internship at Vogue India, and also wrote a blog post for the British Vogue’s website. Fashion helped build my confidence and my sense of self-expression. At INSEAD too, I will pursue this passion with gusto!
When it comes to food, I see myself as a connoisseur of great taste and food as the ultimate expression of a culture. My passion for eating and cooking new delicacies has defined my travels, with me speaking to chefs, visiting local markets, and trying out regional cuisines for an ultimate gastronomical experience!
My love for food goes hand in hand with my desire for fitness. Having always been actively involved in sports and athletics, whether as a player of my school’s first girls’ football team or as a part of Flipkart Fashion’s cricket team, I have now started training in weights, Pilates and HIIT, which not only builds my physical and mental endurance, but induces discipline into my life. At INSEAD, I want to maintain this regimen and inspire others to lead a healthier lifestyle.
